Know not I, how today will pass
Know not I what tomorrow has in store
All that I know is,
I will be there for you For All Eternity
I received this unnamed picture yesterday from a friend. He had come across this from some source. Rattled by the power of the photograph, he wanted me to take a look. Seeing the picture, I went numb for a moment. He was so right. Rarely do you get to see such photographs that impact you so much these days. Bereft of cosmetic effects, it is just raw emotions. Emotions of pain, hunger, hopelessness in no way overcomes the bonding of the siblings. My memories took me back to the tales of the Vietnam war and the powerful images captured by the war correspondents of that era https://time.com/vietnam-photos/
In these days of conflict over tangibles, it is not uncommon to read that about a family member going against another. These often have disastrous consequences. The viciousness of these thoughts and actions are truly mind-boggling. The irony here is that this kind of behaviour happens amongst people who have a roof over their head and two square meals a day. The greed in our minds has brought this society to where it is today.
The siblings may not have had a proper meal or a wash for days. They do not have a roof over their heads. Who knows whether they have their parents too? All they have is the bond amongst themselves, to survive each moment, together in the face of all adversity. The innocence of the pain in their eyes and their togetherness is a lesson for the larger community. The people who have everything they deserve should try to be a little more humane and empathetic to their surroundings. The greed for the acquisition of tangibles should not be the only motto of life. There are millions of such helpless children in this world. Each of these children has a heart and soul. It is unfair the way the so-called civilized society treats them. Cant we extend a hand to them and make their lives a tad better. These are the very children from whom we can learn what bonding and resilience in the face of adversity mean.
Each individual has something to give someone and take something from someone in return. I am not referring to the tangibles. Here I am referring to life’s experiences and learnings. Rather than being stoic in our positions, if we barter our experiences, the world will surely be a better place to live.
