You tiptoed into our hearts
On a warm sunny day
You needed nothing
You just sat and observed
But you stole our hearts
With your eyes of gold
This black beauty visited us on a warm Sunday afternoon, almost a decade ago. Those were the times when Sunday’s were quieter than the Sundays of today. You could happily enjoy your Sunday breakfast and the newspaper quietly.
I had just finished my breakfast and was walking over to the sink. The sink (like many old Indian homes) was outside the house. As I just stepped out, this black beauty was sitting on the compound wall, just looking at me. I just stood motionless looking at it. The cat then went over the compound wall into the adjacent house. I came inside to pick up my camera. Not sure whether the cat was still there I rushed outside.
With a calm demeanour, the cat was still sitting there. I got as close I could and then took these pictures. My folks at home were wondering what was happening and had come out one by one behind me. The cat was unnerved and continued to sit there. Then with one “meow” she just walked away.
She had captured our hearts, with her eyes of gold.
