When I was younger

I galloped with the wind

When I was younger

You rode on my back

Today, as I barely trot

I am left astray

I had taken this picture at Mahabalipuram in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu, India. It was the middle of 2019. Walking along the crowded beaches, I chanced upon this horse, looking intently at the lady in front. At the spur of the moment, I clicked the picture. But the composition hit me when I looked at the picture again.

Here was this old and worn-out horse, probably hungry and ignored by its owner. Trying to fend for itself, it spots a lady with a snack and looks on earnestly. Just in case, the lady shows some kindness. But she walks on. The reality of the world today is reflected by the way the little boy mocks at the horse.

It makes me think about our mindset. How selfish we have become?. Once the job is done, we don’t think twice about disposing. It can be disposing of relationships or animals of our livelihood. How sad is it!!
