The lapping waves
The whistling winds
The tickle of the sand
The caress of the rising Sun
And the magic begins.
On a warm September morning, I walked along a tiny bit of the Coromandel Coast on the eastern side of south India. The staff at the hotel had told us if we could rise early, we could see a beautiful sunrise. The night ticked very slowly and my watch seemed not to move at all. Finally, unable to take it any more I slowly tiptoed out of the room and walked straight to the beach, which was like my backyard.
It was still dark, not a soul around except for the security guard. I seemed to have disturbed the poor man’s sleep by coming on to the beach at that early hour. Assuring him that I would not go near the water, I sat quietly absorbing the silence around. The only sound resonating was the passing wind, that whistled by and the lapping waves. This experience needs to be felt and is hard to express. There I sat, holding my camera and trying not to go back to sleep. But try as I did to stay awake, the music of the waves and the wind, put me to sleep, right there on the beachfront.
All of a sudden, I wake up to the light and the sound of the chirping birds and what do I see in front of me!! It was the magic of daybreak. I shall remember this moment, for a long time ahead. It was so serene and so magical.
