When the limbs ache
And when the mind is clogged,
All You need is a whiff of fresh air
And a waterfront...
There cant be a better place, than the Sankey tank...
Located in the western part of Bangalore, this is one of the last surviving water bodies of the British era. Covering an area of about 37.1 acres ,at its widest, the tank has a width of 2,624.7 ft.Sankey tank was constructed by Col. Richard Hieram Sankey of the Madras Sappers Regiment (MEG), in 1882, to meet the water supply demands of Bangalore. Bangalore has always had water challenges owing to it being a land locked city. Water shortages to some extent were mitigated much later, by drawing water from the Kaveri river, in Mysore.
Statistics apart, we are indeed fortunate that, this lake has survived the upheavals of time. Today it is one of the last surviving pristine lung spaces in our city. A great place for a walk in the evening, a good place for bird watching and photography. I just hope, this place survives for a long time and continues to give the people of Bangalore, the much needed "Whiff of Fresh Air"
