You have been around before me

I hope you will be around, even after

You gave us so much-

The fresh air, the flowers and

The music of the birds

But sadly, I gave you nothing

Alas!! what a fool am I

Not to realize if you weren’t around

 Neither will I

Every morning, I get such beautiful in bouquets in various shapes and sizes. They are delivered to me free of cost, just outside my window. I have been getting these window deliveries every day, for the last twenty-eight years. Thanks to the mighty African tulip tree next door.

This tree almost five storeys high is one of the tallest in my area and must have been around for more than half a century, at least. It is home to numerous species of birds, from parrots to falcons.  Mammals like bats and squirrels also co-exist here. These inhabitants are also fantastic musicians in their own rights. We get to enjoy this music all day round. During the peak season, the tree is blooming with these bright red flowers. You hardly see a leaf at that time. The entire tree appears to be like a ball of fire

When the season's change and the leaves wither away, the bare branches paint a different picture. The geometry of the bare branches is a sight to behold. And when the seasons’ change again, the leaves come back like magic.

Today, as more people have started to reside in this area, I am exposed to various thoughts, which are so downright stupid. Initially, I used to be furious hearing their thoughts. Today I pity them. Education has not made them literate but on the other side made them certified illiterates. There is an earnest endeavour to chop this tree down now. The reasons for that are so frivolous. Falling leaves and the sap from falling non-germinated flowers, apparently dirty the houses below. Does this justify killing this giant? How dumb are we not to realize that, if this giant survives ONLY THEN, will we!!
