All that shimmers, is not necessarily good...

You may shimmer in the sun

You may look beautiful when illuminated

You may make a building look grand

Yet

You are a cause of major pain, to Mother Earth

My attention was drawn to these buildings while alighting from a local transport near my house, almost two years ago. These skyscrapers were some of the latest additions to the skyline of Bangalore. Standing on the walkway adjacent to the bus stop, I admired the different hues of the setting sun, on the building. It was a glittering affair, to say the least.

                However, the very next instance my mind was drawn to the issues of global warming, such buildings are causing, the world over. Lack or low levels of natural ventilation, cause such buildings to increase energy consumption through artificial means. Added to this, the enhanced use of glass also increases the reflective heat from the building to the surrounding. Sadly, such buildings with glass facades are very common, because of the so-called beauty, it gives. But, what we are losing in the background is far more dangerous and probably irreparable. But do we care?
